Support Heinz Chapel
The Heinz Chapel Building Fund
At the chapel’s dedication in 1938, Howard Heinz spoke for his family when he said that the chapel was “dedicated to culture, an understanding response to beauty, and religious worship.”
Annually, more than 100,000 visitors participate in its religious services, weddings, concerts, classes, memorial services, celebrations, and guided tours.
Although the chapel undergoes routine maintenance, its priceless features sometimes require more specialized care. Through fundraisers, such as the Heinz Chapel Angel program, administrators hope to embark on several projects, including preservation of the steeple, pews, roof, pipe organ, and the famous Charles J. Connick stained-glass windows. By addressing the projects now, we can be certain that the masterpiece will endure for many more decades.

Become a Chapel Angel
Limited-edition,
stained-glass angel
Few icons in today’s society inspire so many people as profoundly as the angel. An enduring symbol of hope, mystery, and refuge, the angel is a touchstone of strength for millions.
For the University of Pittsburgh’s Heinz Memorial Chapel, the angel represents something else: a chance for renewal and a touch of immortality.
By donating $150 to the Heinz Chapel Building Fund, you can become a Chapel Angel. Two-thirds of your donation will benefit the chapel’s preservation projects, and $100 of the donation is tax deductible. To thank you, we will present you with a limited-edition stained-glass angel, a reminder of how your generosity will preserve tradition for generations to come.
About the Angels
The color and beauty of the angels are reminiscent of the chapel’s famous stained-glass windows. The angels are six inches high; because they are handmade, each is unique. Heinz Chapel angels are issued annually, starting with the 2002 edition.
The ornaments are the work of stained-glass artist Marian Fieldson, a native of western Pennsylvania who now lives in Hale’iwa, Hawaii. Angels are Fieldson’s signature design, inspired by holidays spent on the island. She creates them by melting glass at temperatures of more than 2,000 degrees before shaping them into angel form.
Suitable as holiday ornaments or window suncatchers, the angels make perfect gifts for couples married at the chapel, to celebrate a new baby or other special occasions, or simply for those who want to enjoy the angels' beauty in their own homes.
